The Grand Traverse Regional Land Conservancy (GTRLC) is embarking on a project to create a new website for their Conservation Center, focusing on environmental sustainability and showcasing the importance of land preservation. The website will serve as a sister site to the existing GTRLC website, incorporating similar design elements while emphasizing the unique features of the Conservation Center.

Objectives:

  1. Create a visually appealing and user-friendly website that reflects the values of environmental sustainability and conservation.

  2. Incorporate design elements consistent with the parent GTRLC website to maintain brand continuity.

  3. Showcase the importance of the Conservation Center's land in preserving wildlife habitats, native plants, and watershed ecosystems.

Understanding:

This process was informed by multiple tours of the Conservation Center, allowing for firsthand experience of the site's natural beauty and ecological significance.

Two design workshops will focus on understanding and visually representing the importance of the land in maintaining healthy watershed ecosystems, supporting wildlife populations, and fostering the return of native plants.

  1. The website will prioritize accessibility and ease of navigation, ensuring that visitors can easily find information about the Conservation Center's mission, programs, and events.

  2. Design elements will emphasize the Center's commitment to sustainability, using eco-friendly imagery and color schemes to reinforce its environmental message.

Next Steps:

  1. Conduct further research and gather inspiration from environmental and conservation-themed websites.

  2. Develop wireframes and design mockups based on insights gathered from the Conservation Center tours and workshops.

  3. Regularly review and iterate on design concepts based on feedback from stakeholders and end-users.

  4. Launch the Conservation Center website, promoting its mission and initiatives to a wider audience.

Closing:

As we draw the curtains on this transformative journey with the Grand Traverse Regional Land Conservancy, it's impossible not to reflect on the profound privilege of our association with this exceptional group of individuals. Working alongside the dedicated team at GTRLC has been nothing short of inspiring, as we've collectively embarked on a mission to celebrate and preserve the natural wonders of our world.

As we bid farewell to this chapter, let us carry forward the lessons learned, the friendships forged, and the memories cherished. May the website we've crafted together serve as a beacon of hope, inspiring others to join the noble cause of conservation and preservation. Find all the great things about GTRLC here

Key Learnings:

  • Transitioning designs to third-party web developers was been challenging due to communication gaps after hand-offs. In future projects, we aim to collaborate closely with developers from the outset to ensure a smooth transition and consistent implementation.

  • Providing comprehensive information on website architecture throughout the design process will be essential for maintaining consistency and clarity across all stages of development.
